Okay well I didn't realise the Chapter 2 deadline had passed [silly me] so I ended up writing an entry. So yeh, figured i'd share it anyways.
Critique is appreaciated xD
The atmosphere tensed. Nick crushed the lemonade can in his hand before it slipped from his grasp, hitting the hard concrete before them.
"What?!" Alice squeaked, holding back her tears.
Nick's expression stayed flat, but his eyebrows curved up a little to show his feeling, "Harmony, your joking, right? This is just one of those 'Harmony jokes' that get us all upset before you hit us in the arm and say, 'fooled 'cha!' right? I mean, you've lived up in the floor above Alice forever!"
Alice shot a glance at Nick, did he have to make it even worse by mentioning how close her and Harmony lived together?
They both looked at the angsty teen, who's tanned face stayed the same. Her lips curled downwards slightly as she dropped her head to the floor.
"Nick, Alice, I'm not joking! I AM moving, and there's nothing I can do about it. Dad's been offered a job somewhere so he wants to move there so we're close to it," Harmony muttered through her half-opened mouth.
"How far?" Nick sighed, coming his perfect hair to one side.
"Yeah, I still want to visit you," Alice faked a weak smile through her crumbling expression and shaking posture.
"No, Alice. I don't think your gran can drive a 7 hour drive.." Harmony muttered, before brushing herself off and running into towards the burning ball of fire known as the summer sun.
Alice's tears splattered onto her face, cooling her from the heatwave. Her eyes burned with lines of red and her face turned a dark pink. Gone. That word changed everything.
Nick and Alice never saw Harmony for the rest of the school day. Alice wasn't up to her 'SaveTheCows' protest without Harmony there to tell her to shut up with all the noise. Nick wasn't even up to telling her people were making a fuss and that she wasn't being noticed for the protest, anyway. Without Harmony's angsty ways, it was too quiet. And even though Nick and Alice still had each other as best friends, there was still the third amigo missing, a place missing in their heart. Without Harmony, they were too empty to want to be themselves.
Alice threw herself onto her bed as soon as she was home. Fresh tears escaped her eyes as she buried her head into her soft pillows, remembering all the fun times they had together and remembering who was maybe still on the floor above her. Brows furrowing, she flicked on the radio to her favourite station. Of course, that made things worse.
'Now we're spinning empty bottles, it's the five of us,' No, maybe not 5, but 3, but there was always Jess and Em on the rare occassion, 'With pretty eyed boys girl die to trust.' Nick, 'In white houses,' White flats.
Sighing to herself, she heard a knock on the door, and a slight croak which confirmed it was Gran.
"Alice, dear. Your friend is at the door, she said it's urgent," The old lady croaked from the other side of the wooden door.
"Okay Gran, i'll be right there," Alice excitedly said back. 'She' meant it was Harmony. A final chance to see her again.
Alice rushed to the front door, to see a sobbing and bruised Harmony, with Nick beside her.
"Harmony?! What happened? Aren't you on your way to the new house?" Alice questioned, hugging her best friend.
"N-n-no, we were. Something's happened, Al. We aren't moving anymore. He's.. g-gone," Harmony stuttered. She normally wasn't the kind of person to show her emotions.
"What? Nick, what happened?" Alice continued to ask, a puzzled look on her face.
"Alice, Benjamin's dead," Nick's voice echoed through Alice's ears. Harmony's dad.. is gone?
